Fashion Jewelry Materials & Finishes
Two jewelry styles can look similar and still differ in base metal, stone, finish or attachment. This page helps wholesale buyers ask precise specification questions before approving a style. Use the selected item number and reference image as the starting point, then identify the characteristics your business needs to confirm.
Separate appearance from composition
A silver-colored or gold-colored surface describes appearance. It does not establish sterling-silver content, solid gold, plating composition or coating thickness. Ask which base metal and finish are quoted for the exact version. If precious-metal content matters to your listing, request the relevant composition information before using that wording.
The rhinestone and cubic zirconia catalogs provide distinct style references. Confirm the stone type and color per item. Avoid replacing one stone name with another merely because a photograph shows a similar clear sparkle.
Identify the physical requirements
Describe dimensions with units and explain how they are measured. For a necklace, separate chain length, extender length and pendant dimensions. For an earring, separate drop length from the stud or hook. For a stretch bracelet, ask about resting circumference and width rather than assuming that “stretch” fits every customer.
Connections and closures deserve their own questions. A clasp, post, hook or adjustable fastening changes how a piece is used and displayed. Ask for a close-up or sample where that feature is important to your range.
Use color references carefully
Request the available stone color reference and identify the code or named color you want. Compare a physical sample when color consistency matters across a set. Digital photographs, lighting and screens can change how a color appears, so clarify which reference becomes the approved version.
Ask for evidence that matches the item
If your market requires a particular test, declaration or label, state it before the quotation is finalized. Ask whether the available document identifies the relevant product, material, date and scope. A logo or a general company image is not sufficient to establish that your selected version meets a requirement.
Do not publish blanket claims about skin safety, environmental performance or certification based on a catalog photograph. Record the agreed specification and supporting documents alongside the approved sample.
Send a specification-led request
Include the item number, material requirement, dimensions, stone color, finish, quantity and destination. Identify what is fixed and what you are open to comparing. Contact sales to review the selected version; the FAQ explains the next steps for samples and quotations.
